My name is Patrick Coleman. I am a luthier and a musician with a passion for guitars and basses. I enjoyed playing them, buying them, fixing them, hot-rodding them, then selling or trading them. One fateful day in 2012, I traded a Deluxe Fender Stratocaster for a Gibson Les Paul with a broken headstock and a box of guitar bodies and a neck. When I began to repair and rebuild these guitars, I saw the name “Boogie Bodies” stamped in the neck pocket, so I found Lynn Ellsworth’s phone number and I called him for the parts needed to complete this build.
Lynn said he had the parts and he invited me to his home to buy them. When I asked where he lived, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Lynn Lived about 6 miles from my home in Spokane Washington. I went to Lynn’s house that very evening, after work, and I was amazed at the beautiful guitars that filled Lynn’s basement and this immediately engaged my entrepreneurial spirit.
Lynn had been out of the guitar business for many years, unfortunately, long enough to lose the “Boogie Bodies” trademark he had brought to fame. I told Lynn that I could sell all of his guitars and encouraged him to get back into the business and become partners. Soon Lynn and I began to bounce creative ideas from off each other and came up with the Relicmaster Series; Guitars made from a weather-beaten docks, fences and decks. The Reptile Series; Guitars made from a 3 dimensional Epoxy, and the 3D-Luxe Series; Guitars with 3 dimensional sculptures that are embedded into the body of the guitar, then coated with hydro-graphic art. By the end of that summer, I had sold most all the guitars that Lynn had and we also had orders for new builds. In 2013, we formed “Lynn Ellsworth Guitars LLC.”
Mark Martini ignited this endeavor with some financial backing and soon we had a new partner with great vision, a new shop, as well as the equipment and parts needed to make our new guitars. Not only were we making new guitars, but we were also finishing some of the many guitars that Lynn had made from exotic woods, throughout the previous decades. Lynn, Mark and I built this business from the ground up. We created guitars at our own pace, paying close attention to details and finding rare woods that are both pleasing to the eyes as well as the ears, while discovering a place where technology and nature are in perfect harmony.
In 2016, Mark and I bought Lynn’s interest in this small, but relevant corporation. We retained the name that we built together, while compensating Lynn for his efforts. We continue the legacy Lynn Ellsworth has built by making the finest guitars possible, using the skills he taught us and the newly acquired ones as well.
In a world that pumps out guitars like a cookie-cutter on an assembly line; identically, Lynn Ellsworth Guitars LLC continues to buck the trend buy creating each guitar with it’s own unique personality and characteristics, right here in the good ol’ US of A!
To this day, Mark and I continue to bring our customers the quality they have become accustomed to, while going out of our way to treat each customer and their guitar, with the utmost dedication and attention that they deserve.
